Information for/about Former Faculty
We are grateful to our former faculty members for their service and dedication to the university. On this page, we host information regarding retired faculty members, as well as faculty members who have passed away while working at Tufts.
If an academic department in the School of Arts and Sciences or School of Engineering would like to recommend a full-time faculty member for emeritus status upon retirement, please refer to Chapter 2 of the AS&E Faculty Handbook for criteria about this type of appointment. For more information, please contact the Secretary of the Faculty for Arts, Sciences and Engineering, Erin Sullivan, or call (617) 627-3156.
Activities and Opportunities for Faculty Emeriti
The Office of the Provost maintains a database listing all emeriti faculty, in all schools of the university. To help keep the information updated, please notify the Office of the Provost of any change in mailing address, email address, or other information. If you have any questions or would like to update your contact information, please send an email to email@example.com, or call (617) 627-3310.
Emeriti faculty members are invited to attend the university-wide and school commencement programs in the year they are awarded emeriti status. Please contact your school dean's office for specific information regarding the school's commencement program.
The Office of the Provost invites emeriti faculty members to attend an annual luncheon held on the Medford campus. It provides an opportunity for you to visit the campus and stay connected with former colleagues. As part of the event, the provost offers remarks on the state of the university, highlighting accomplishments, activities, and developments at Tufts.
Emeriti faculty from the Medford/Somerville campus may request a parking permit without charge from the Office of the Provost to use when parking on the Medford/Somerville campus. Shortly after emeriti status is conferred, the Provost’s Office will reach out to gather license plate information. We are only able to provide a parking permit for one (1) vehicle per emeriti faculty and the permit is non-transferrable. If you have any questions, please contact (617) 627-3310 for more information. If your license plate number changes, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to update it.
Emeriti faculty from the Grafton campus may apply to Public Safety on the Grafton Campus for a parking permit, and the fee will be waived. Please note that your parking permit is for your use only and cannot be transferred to any other individual.
Complementary parking privileges are not available on the Boston and SMFA campuses at this time.
Emeriti faculty can stay connected to the University through the online publication Tufts Now.
Tufts Magazine, the biannual university alumni publication, is available to you upon request.
Academic departments are encouraged to invite emeriti faculty members to appropriate departmental events. Emeriti faculty members are welcome to remain involved in departmental colloquia, lectures, and professional and social events.
Tufts is pleased to extend Emeriti faculty member's university email address after retirement. This includes continued access to zoom and Tufts Box. Please note: Retiring faculty may receive a singular alert message ("your Tufts email account expires soon") but should disregard this as the Faculty Information System is registering the change. If faculty receive a second alert, please contact Tufts IT. If you have any other questions or concerns, Emeriti faculty or their department administrator should send a request to email@example.com.
AS&E Faculty Meetings
